I started this piece thinking about how a beach can feel both romantic and wild. The pink wash across the top is soft and swirled, like water moving over a surface, while the lower half holds real sand and small shells. I wanted to keep that contrast alive, the smooth part and the rough part, the way a coastline is always in motion.
The shape is simple, a heart, but the texture does the work. The shells catch light in small flashes, and the sand gives it weight and grit. I made this for Valentine's, but not the kind that feels too sweet. It is a piece that sits in the room and stays quiet, a little rough around the edges, like the best kind of love.
